How to Care for a Pond With Algae
- 1). Add an algaecide to the water of the pond. Follow all directions on the product. Algae treatments will add chemicals to the water that kill off the algae.
- 2). Use a skimmer to remove algae from the surface of the pond water and dispose of it. Skim the water regularly to remove as much algae as possible.
- 3). Install a filter and pump system in the pond to filter out algae and aerate the water. Algae consumes oxygen from the water, which can cause it to stagnate and stink. Constant circulation and cleansing of the water will make it harder for algae to grow.
- 4). Add plants to the pond, such as water lilies, that will shade the water and absorb nutrients, therefore making it harder for algae to grow.
