Burning Bush Craft for Kids
- The basic form of this craft uses a paper plate as the base. You can also use a sheet of construction paper or printer paper if paper plates are not available. The branches and flames are made from brown, red, orange and yellow construction paper. Also required are scissors to cut the shapes out, a pen and either white craft glue or glue sticks to stick the pieces to the background.
- Cut out a branching bush shape from brown construction paper. If you need to, draw a light pencil line that splits into two branches. Continue branching the lines and adding additional offshoots at random intervals. Cut the shape out, leaving a space around the lines and bringing each branch to a point, then turn the bush shape over to hide the pencil marks. Cut ovals with pointed ends out of yellow, orange and red construction paper to make flames.
- Help children write words and phrases on the flames to reinforce what they've learned from the Bible story. Some ideas for things to write on the flames include names of God, events in Moses' life, ways God has revealed himself in your lives or things you believe God wants you to do. These pick up the story's themes of God revealing himself to Moses and calling Moses to rescue the nation of Israel from their slavery in Egypt.
- Even if children are too young to participate in writing on the flames, they can enjoy helping to put the burning bush together. Create the base of the bush by gluing the brown branches onto a paper plate or a sheet of printer paper or construction paper. Glue the construction paper flames along the lengths of the branches or at their tips. Help each child label his craft by writing his name at the bottom.
