Kangaroo Paper Crafts
- Have children copy kangaroo shapes onto different colored card stock. Give them colored pens so they can draw in features. Help them cut out their kangaroo shapes. Thread each cut out into the end of a length of invisible (clear plastic) thread with a needle. Knot the thread at the back of the cutout to secure and tie the other end onto a wire coat hanger. Tie on other cutouts at slightly different heights and hang up the coat hanger for a paper kangaroo mobile.
- Make a kangaroo card to send to Aussie friends to a celebrate Australia Day on January 26. Make a basic greeting card by folding a piece of letter sized colored card stock in half. Cut a kangaroo shape from light brown paper and glue in the center of the front of your card. Stick on self-adhesive googley eyes and draw in a nose and whiskers with black felt tip pen.
- Print out a kangaroo mask from Artists Helping Children (see references) onto a letter sized sheet of card stock and cut it out. Make a hole on each side of the mask, stretch a piece of elastic (long enough to go around the back of a child's head) over the back of the mask, push an end through each hole and knot. To give your paper mask a furry kangaroo texture, cut out pieces of brown felt, slightly smaller than the printed out ears, and glue inside the mask ears. Cut three black pipe cleaners in half and glue three halves on each side of the mask's nose as whiskers.
- Make a cute kangaroo puppet for kids to play with. Cut out a kangaroo shape from thick brown paper or card stock. Cut a pocket shape small enough to fit on the front of the kangaroo cutout from the same colored card. Cut out a small kangaroo head from lighter brown card or paper. Glue the pocket onto the kangaroo's stomach and stick the little kangaroo's head on top of the pocket as if it were peeking out. Draw in noses, eyes and whiskers onto the large and small kangaroos' faces. Glue a lollipop stick or craft stick onto the back of the large kangaroo as the puppet's handle.
