Homemade Storage Ideas for Cards
- Find a pencil box or cigar box large enough for your biggest greeting cards. Decide on the outside theme for your box, such as floral patterns, animal print or religious. Search through old magazines to find images you would like to display on the box and carefully cut out the images. Arrange the pictures on the top of the box until you have your desired design. Cover the back of each picture with decoupage glue and attach to the box. Once a side of the box is covered with your images, cover the entire side of the box with a thin coat of decoupage glue. Continue this process for each side of the box until all sides are covered. Allow your decoupage box to dry completely before placing your greeting cards inside.
- Turn a simple, unused, wooden box into a creative masterpiece to house your greeting cards. Find an old wooden box large enough to fit all of your greeting cards. Pick out two colors of craft paint for your box craft. Paint the box the darker of the two colors and allow to dry. Apply a thin coat of crackling medium over the painted box. Before the crackling medium dries completely, apply the lighter color of paint to the box. Allow all paint to dry on the box before placing on display.
- Choose a photo album with clear front and back pages to display your cards. Be sure to choose an album large enough to display your largest cards. Cut each greeting card in half down the seam of the card and glue the two blank sides together so that the front of the card is showing on one side and the inner message of the card is displayed on the opposite side. Once the glue has completely dried on each of your greeting cards, slide each card inside one of the clear photo album pages until all of your cards are displayed in the album.
- Save your greeting cards given to you in a scrapbook and separate the cards according to theme. At your local craft store, purchase scrapbooking stickers and letters with various seasonal themes and categorize your stickers to go with each separate stack of cards by theme. Choose your layout for each page and decorate the page with the corresponding scrapbook stickers. For example, if you have a few pages designated for Easter-themed cards, cut the card in half and paste the outside of the card facing up and the inside message facing up to display the card. Then decorate the rest of each page with stickers and letters spelling appropriate words, such as the name of the person who gave you the greeting card.
