    • 1). Employ a formal memo format. Use the word To and state the recipient's name. On the next line, write From and state your name. On the next line write Re (i.e., regarding) and state the topic of the memo. The line after that displays the date.

    • 2). In the body of the memo, list some facts about your memorial donation. Briefly describe the life of the person you are honoring and the reasons why this particular institution is appropriate to receive it.

    • 3). Describe how you would like your funds to be used. If the donation is for a scholarship, ask the institution to send you a letter naming the people who received scholarships and the amount of each award. Indicate that you would like to receive notification that the funds were used in the manner that you had suggested.

    • 4). Provide a time frame in which you would like your donation to be used. For example, if you want the funds to be used for scholarships, state that you would like the scholarships to be given out during the following year or at a time that would be significant to honor the person who has passed.

    • 5). Thank the institution for allowing you to make a donation in a special person's memory. Explain the ways this donation allows you to continue the late person's pursuits or how its use would be a fitting tribute to this person's life.
