How to Eradicate Boring Bees
- 1). Scout out the boring bee damage during the day when visibility is good. Inspect the surface of all of the unpainted wood structures on your property. Look for the 1/2-inch holes that the boring bees create. Make a mental note of where they are.
- 2). Wrap the top of a flashlight with red cellophane or plastic wrap. When you turn the light on, the light will be red and invisible to the bees. This will help you scout holes at night without disturbing the bees.
- 3). Treat the boring bee holes with insecticidal dust (use a duster) or a spray wasp and bee killer. Go at night when the bees are least active. Apply the pesticide directly into the mouth of the hole so that it penetrates as deep as possible. Use the red light to help you see and keep an eye out from emerging bees.
- 4). Observe the area over the next few weeks. As the boring bees fly in and out of the holes, they will come into contact with the insecticide and die. If you still see activity after 3 weeks, you may need to treat again.
- 5). Plug the wood borer's hole with a section of a wooden dowel cut to the appropriate length and coated with carpenter's glue.
