Setting Up the Right Workouts For Abs

Whenever beach season approaches, everyone scrambles to whip themselves into shape- but really, the best way to get your abs ready for the beach is to keep up with your ab workouts all year-round.
I know, I know, easy for me to say.
Hey, you may not even know how to exercise the "core" abdominal muscles at all, much less do it all year long.
Okay, so let's go over the basics of how you can get this done so that your friends call you dirty words under their breath when they see that you're in great shape and they're still fat and soft when you get into your bathing suits.
I mean, that is what we're after, right? A sexy set of six-pack abs that draws the attention of the opposite sex and stirs jealously in the competition! First off.
Everyone's different.
And no, I don't just mean in the sense of genetics, although that's true.
I mean everybody is different in their lifestyle, like how much time they have to devote to exercise, what kinds of exercises they like, do they belong to a gym, that sort of thing.
It doesn't do you any good to set up a quick, temporary workout program for your abs that you ditch at the first sign of boredom or frustration.
So you're going to have to experiment with what you'll stick with in the long term if you expect to keep your six pack once you have it.
I like to say that the body has a short memory.
That's a good thing- it means that you can make a change for the positive, no matter how far gone you think you may be.
A fat person CAN become thin, and belly that looks like cookie dough CAN become sleek and sexy.
Yes, it can.
The opposite is also true.
A short memory is a bad thing, in that you have to keep up with your program or lose the benefits.
It's like mowing the lawn.
You have to keep doing it regularly, week in, week out, or your neighbors are going to yell at you.
Another really important thing to keep in mind is to address ALL of the muscles of the core, and not just the rectus abdominus (or "six pack" muscles in the front).
There's a ring of core muscles that go all the way around the body and protect your spine...
and also holds your belly in! You need to make sure that you take care of all three of these- the front, the back, and the sides.
There's a lot of different exercises that engage these muscles separately, and you need to play with them and find out which ones you like and which ones seem to work the best for you.
Actually, you'll find that the exercises you like the most are usually the ones that work best for you- again, mostly because you'll stick with them.
Not too surprising, right? Make sure you pay attention to the entire ring of core muscles, and not just the front, and create a routine that you like and that will fit into your lifestyle in the long term, and you are on the right path to drawing the right kinds of looks at the beach.
