Resolving Conflicts in Relationships

Communication is the key to enhancing intimacy and trust in a relationship.
This is why when there is a breakdown in communication it can lead to feelings of mistrust.
This negative atmosphere then gets transformed into conflict.
Here are some typical instances of negative behavior that can lead to conflicts in relationships.
Many people think it is better not to discuss their feelings with their partner as it could lead to conflict.
In this way, their feelings stay bottled up until they are angry and then they explode.
So they end up saying things in a manner that is hurtful and offensive.
This strategy of avoiding conflict by not saying anything at all ultimately backfires and does result in conflict.
In fact, the issue usually snowballs into something much more serious.
It is always better to discuss issues as and when they crop up instead of waiting for things to get unbearable.
Couples often come across situations they don't like being in say a flat tire when on a road trip.
Instead of calmly accepting the circumstances, they end up blaming each other for the unforeseen event.
Soon they start hurling accusations at each other about their behavior in the past.
When this happens the best things is to stop, take a step back and think if anyone is really to blame for the adverse situation.
Avoid bringing up conflicts that took place in the past.
This just leads to further conflict.
Every situation has two sides to it and it is not necessary that the way you look at things is always the right way.
Most people tend to think that their way is the right way.
The truth is right or wrong is a relative concept.
Most people expect their partners to look at things their way.
Instead, try to come to a compromise so that no one feels put off about being wrong.
There need not always be a right or wrong answer! Many people do not listen to what their partners say.
Without paying attention, they just presume that they already know what their partner must be saying.
This leads to conflicts in relationships since the partner feels he/she is not being heard.
In most cases it could also lead to misunderstandings.
When couples fight to win an argument, they just end up hurting their partner's feelings.
The whole point of a being in a relationship is to be able to come to some sort of a resolution whenever there is a difference in opinion.
The idea is not to win the argument at the cost of making your partner feel small.
