How to Make Textures Large
- 1). Mix the medium with paint in a bowl or on the palette. A ratio of four parts medium to one part paint will render a thick, bright paint. Mix well with a palette knife.
- 2). Scrape a painting knife into the paint, and wipe it onto the canvas. Build up several layers of paint in this way, then begin applying larger amounts with the knife.
- 3). Shape the textures with the knife as you apply the paint. If stiff peaks are desired, press a flat, thick surface such as cardboard on the top of the paint. Immediately lift this straight up off the paint.
- 4). Allow the paint to dry completely before continuing. This may take up to 12 hours, depending on the thickness of the paint. The paint can then be sculpted or sanded, and other layers of paint can be applied on top of the textures.
