How to Get Rid of Blackheads and Whiteheads
- 1). Cleanse your face morning and night with a gentle cleanser, and never scrub. If you use abrasive scrubs or use a scratchy sponge on your face, it can stimulate oil production, which can actually make blackheads and whiteheads worse.
- 2). Do not squeeze a whitehead or blackhead, as this can lead to infection or scarring. See a dermatologist if you need these blemishes removed quickly; he or she can use sterile instruments to do the job.
- 3). Use facial lotions that contain benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. These agents can dry excess oil and promote sloughing of old, dead skin.
- 4). Schedule a visit with a dermatologist and ask if your acne requires prescription treatment. Several prescription skin medications are available that can break up comedones, reduce surface bacteria and even reduce the size of oil glands in your skin.
- 5). Discuss with your doctor any possible causes for your problem. If your acne persists, discuss other possible causes for your acne, including hormonal imbalances, poor diet and the use of oil-based makeup products.
