Capspray HVLP Techniques
The Correct Pass
- Trigger the HVLP right before you start each painting pass and release it just before you finish the pass, which should be approximately 20 inches each time. Position the tip of the gun anywhere from one to eight inches from the surface and spray horizontally in a smooth, easy pass at a steady speed. Move your entire arm over the 20 inches and point the sprayer tip directly at the surface (as opposed to moving your wrist side-to-side). Overlap each area slightly rather than trying to stop directly at the end of one pass and the beginning of another. Make your first coat relatively thin and allow it to set but not completely dry. After it has set, apply a thicker coat using the same technique.
