How to Get on a Skimboard

    • 1). Hold the skim board with your left hand on the left side of the board and your right hand on the bottom if you use a regular stance with your left foot forward. For goofy riders, reverse this grip.

    • 2). Stand on the beach facing the ocean. As a wave breaks, run towards it. Start out slowly and build up your run-up speed as you progress.

    • 3). Throw the board down slightly ahead of you as you reach the shallow water. This will take some practice. Beginners may suffer a few bruises to their feet and shins.

    • 4). Jump onto the board, landing with both feet simultaneously. Regular riders should have their left foot toward the front of the board and right foot at the back. Goofy riders should place their right foot towards the front of the board. Keep your weight centered over the board.

    • 5). Twist at the waist so you are facing forwards as you skim through the shallow water.

    • 6). Shift your weight onto your back foot as you approach the deeper water and approaching wave to prevent the skimboard's nose from dipping.
