Have you ever noticed that people with pets seem to be happier and more content people? Well it isn't your imagination.
There is proof that people that own pets are happier, lead lower stress lives, and have improved health.
Just think about how much your little friend gives you and all they ask in return is plenty of food and attention.
Anyone that has ever owned a pet knows it is almost impossible to stay upset when you see those big eyes lovingly looking up at you, or when a cuddly cat crawls up on your lap just when you sit down.
It is truly hard to deny the powerful benefits that pets can provide to their owners.
A recent study has found that owning a dog or a cat can effectively lower blood pressure on a more consistent basis than even prescription medicine.
That is absolutely incredible.
This is due to the lower stress lives that people tend to lead when they have a pet at home to cheer them up and make them feel better about what is going on with their life.
Everyone has stressful lives, but just seeing a care free pet thrilled to see you when you come home will lower your stress and will make you a happier person.
In addition to the cheerfulness that pets proved they also encourage their owners to get out of the house and exercise daily when they take them for walks.
This helps in a variety of ways.
First the more time you spend with your pet the more their happiness is going to rub off on you.
Secondly is that exercise lowers stress and decreases anxiety.
Finally taking a dog for a walk encourages you to interact with others while you are out and social interactions always decrease stress and anxiety and make you feel better about your self.
Everyone experiences loneliness at one point in their life, and nothing breeds anxiety and depression more than constant isolation.
Pets can partially stave off that from happening because they provide a constant companion to anyone, and while they can't completely replace human companionship they do pretty well to prevent loneliness induced anxiety and depression from ever occurring.
A common cause of anxiety is that people have small worries in their life that they don't ever have a release from, and instead of just dealing with it as it is they think about it and let it fester for hours and eventually build up to an unrealistic level that cause severe anxiety.
A good way to help this is to talk to someone you trust that isn't going to judge you about your problems and this will help you put your problems and worries in perspective and wont cause them to manifest into something much worse than they really are.
Unfortunately it can be hard to find someone who is willing to listen to small problems without judging you, but lucking your little friend is always willing to happily listen to you and will only love you more.
Using your pet to talk to about your small problems and worries can really help you reduce potential anxiety.
If you have considered getting a pet but you aren't sure if that is a commitment you are ready for then I would encourage you to adopt one from a Humane Society.
You will be helping them tremendously by giving them a healthy environment, and they will also help you without measure by just giving you constant love and affection.
