The Advantages of Not Being Married
- Marriage is expensive, from the wedding to the increased living costs that come with sharing your home with another person. Not getting married means that you will be supporting only yourself and not having to buy food, personal care items and clothing for others. It also means you will live in a smaller home or apartment, which will cost less along with bills each month.
- When you get married, every action you make involves your partner. Not getting married means that you don't have to ask someone else before you make important choices. This leaves you the opportunity to be spontaneous at any time without consequences in your personal relationships.
- When you are single and living on your own, there is much less housework that needs to get done. You only have to wash your own clothes and dishes, and clean rooms that you have been living in yourself. You don't have to worry about reminding a partner to tidy up or argue with anyone about cleaning.
- When you're living as a single person, you can focus 100 percent on your career. This means you can take the time to do all that you need to move up in the world, including going to school, moving for work and spending extra time in the office to earn a promotion. Once you are married, you have more of a responsibility to come home to your partner right after work, and moving away would be more difficult, especially if your partner doesn't want to leave town.
- Your goals and dreams in life may not include a partner. Not getting married allows you to put your full focus on meeting your goals and making your dreams come true. If you've always wanted to travel the world, a partner might not share that dream with you. Getting those goals out of the way early and on your own leaves you with plenty of time to settle down later in life and build a family.
