Ways to Stop Snoring and Help Your Spouse Get a Good Nights Sleep

I have had snoring problems for as long as I can remember.
I have been on a quest to find ways to stop snoring for a long time.
The problem came to my attention when I was younger.
I always was embarrassed when I had to listen to my brother or parents tease me about my "sawing wood" etc.
But when I got older and had relationships, especially the live in kind, it wasn't funny for me anymore.
I lost a few live-in girlfriends to my snoring.
One girlfriend would move to a couch when I became so loud and would hurl sneakers in my direction when I woke her with the snoring.
Needless to say that relationship didn't last.
But that made me start looking for cures to my problem.
I started reading about my snoring problem.
It said that alcohol or smoking could worsen the condition.
I drink very rarely nor have I ever smoked.
I searched the internet and I found a physician or specialized in snoring problems including Sleep Apnea and snoring in my city.
Sleep Apnea is a cessation of breathing that can last 10 seconds or more to be called an apnea.
Basically you stop breathing and is considered dangerous.
After visiting the doctor, we decided on an overnight sleep test in a Sleep Apnea lab at a local hospital.
The patient sleeps in a room that has a bed where they can watch and measure their sleeping problem.
For me it was a very uncomfortable and long night because they hook you up with wires all over your body to get a lot of data from your body and ask you not to turn to much.
For me this was difficult.
Well it turned out that I didn't have full blown Sleep Apnea and the doctor didn't recommend any type of surgery or CPAP machines or masks.
A CPAP machine delivers air pressure to you through a mask you must wear at night while you are sleeping.
But I wanted to cure my snoring.
The doctor recommended I lose some weight since I was a little too heavy.
Also, he custom made a dental mouthpiece that I would need to sleep with.
It held my jaw together with my lower jaw moved slightly forward to open up my air passageway a little.
It didn't allow my tongue or soft palate to block my airway and my snoring stopped.
Though it was uncomfortable to wear every night it worked.
But I didn't want to spend the rest of my life with the mouthpiece.
After a lot of searching I found exercises that when I practiced helped to relieve the condition naturally and I was able to do away with the mouthpiece.
Today though I still sometimes snore the condition has gotten a lot better.
My wife is a lot happier now that she can get a good nights sleep and not have to deal with my wearing the mouthpiece.
